The tandem is the diplomatic option: one experienced paddler in the stern keeps things pointed the right way while the bow seat enjoys the view, takes photos, or contributes the occasional stroke. It's the best choice for a parent-and-kid outing or for introducing someone to the water who'd rather not solo their first time out.
