Sand Lake Rec
Learn to Sail I
Zero to sailing a small boat with a friend in two weekends.
This is the front door. No experience, no vocabulary, no gear — just clothes that can get wet. By the end of the first morning you'll have a 420 moving under your hand; by the end of the second weekend you'll be tacking, gybing, and coming home on purpose.
We teach in pairs because sailing is better with an accomplice, and we keep the classroom time to a minimum: about twenty minutes of chalk talk per session, then onto the water while the wind is still deciding what to do.
What we cover
- Rigging and derigging
- Points of sail, tacking, gybing
- Wind sense and right-of-way basics
- Capsize recovery (yes, on purpose)
- Docking and landings
